FAQ's

The full process typically takes between 6 to 8 weeks depending on the country of origin and how quickly clearance is completed at the port. Vehicles from Japan may take slightly longer than those from the UK due to shipping routes. Once the car arrives in Uganda, we handle all clearance and registration within a few working days. We will always keep you updated on key milestones.

When you buy a car locally, you are paying for convenience, but often with less visibility into the car’s past. Many imported cars sold locally have unclear histories or hidden repairs. With Africars, you see the vehicle’s condition, mileage, and verification status upfront. You also have more control over what you get, not just what is available on the lot and your car is registered in your name as soon as it is delivered.

Yes, if you have a specific car in mind whether from a listing in the UK or Japan we can help assess its legitimacy, run verification checks, and manage the purchase and importation if it meets all necessary standards. However, we do not proceed with vehicles we cannot verify.

We import a wide range of vehicles including sedans, SUVs, hatchbacks, hybrid and electric cars, vans, pickup trucks, and luxury models. The key consideration is whether the vehicle meets Ugandan importation standards and your stated preferences. During the consultation, we help you determine what’s most suitable.

We generally require staged payments. An initial deposit is paid after you confirm the vehicle and agree to proceed. The balance is paid in one or two phases depending on the sourcing and shipping timeline. All payment schedules are shared clearly before you commit.

We do not purchase any vehicle without detailed inspection and documentation. Before committing to the purchase, we provide you with photographs, condition reports, and verification results. In addition, we only work with vetted suppliers who have consistent performance records. If a vehicle fails verification, we do not proceed.

Yes. Once the vehicle is cleared, we handle the entire registration process with URA. The car is registered in your name and issued with number plates. You receive full documentation including the logbook, inspection reports, and clearance receipts.

Depending on the supplier and location, certain upgrades like tires, tinting, stereo systems, or reverse cameras may be arranged before shipment. We will advise you on what is feasible at the time of sourcing. However, we only recommend modifications that do not compromise the car’s compliance with Ugandan regulations.

We do not believe in shifting prices mid-process. Once a car is selected and the costs are confirmed, we commit to that figure. Any additional charges (such as optional extras or off-route delivery) are disclosed in advance. If there are any external changes such as government policy shifts that affect costs, we will inform you before proceeding.

We strongly advise clients to proceed only when fully certain, as deposits are used to secure the vehicle from the supplier. In most cases, once a deposit is made and the vehicle is booked or purchased, it is not refundable. If you are unsure, we recommend taking more time in the consultation phase before making any financial commitment.
